Name: Rise of Hope
Materials: Cardboard, Indian Ink, Watercolor
Dimensions: 1.10ft x 1.3ft
Concept: College Assignment
Theme: Butterfly Effect
Year: 2017
When it comes to the Butterfly Effect, the first thing many people think about is a scientific theory that suggests that every action has a direct consequence. Hence the saying, “The flapping of a butterfly in Sri Lanka can cause a hurricane in the United States.” However, the objective of this piece is to emphasize that such effect can be applied not only in science, but also in humanities. The butterfly of a massive size next to a very small world shows that the actions and their intentions can become fundamental next to the adversities. Small actions can generate big changes. Good deeds will create a positive impact in the world.
Name: In Memory of Budapest
Materials: Cardboard, Color Pencil
Dimensions: 1.6ft x 1ft
Concept: College Assignment
Theme: Budapest, Holocaust
Year: 2020
In Budapest, there is a sculpture that was created in 2005 by the artists Gyula Pauer and Can Togay. The sculpture is a tribute to all the Jews who were killed in Budapest during World War II. The sculpture is based on a pile of iron shoes, representing the exact moment when the Jews were forced to remove their shoes before they were shot. This drawing tries to make a tribute to the sculpture and an allusion to the people that walk next to it day by day, remembering the life of those who deserved a longer time. White Lilies are very common at funerals because they represent eternal life after death. Their purpose in the drawing is to show peace and rest to all the people that left their shoes behind.
Name: Global Watch
Materials: Acrylic Painting
Dimensions: 1.2ft x 1ft
Concept: Recreation
Theme: Global Warming
Year: 2020
Global warming is a problem of a massive scale. Given the importance of this topic, scientists created a clock that determines how long humanity has before the world ends because of this. This painting represents some of the scenes that can be witnessed around the world due to this problem. On one side it is possible to see how animals’ natural habitat should be and on the other side what it is becoming. In the center and left side of the painting, a part of what the clock is can be identified and its hands are pointing exactly at the position where they are placed today.
Name: Gem of Power
Materials: Acrylic Paint
Dimensions: 4ft x 3.4ft
Concept: College Assignment
Theme: Women in Society
Year: 2019
In ancient Greece, women did not used to have an elevated value in society. However, there was one category in which their participation was irreplaceable, religion. In addition to being represented as beautiful goddesses, they also took part in religious rites in which many men were unable to participate. In this painting, the main character is a goddess from ancient Greece, demonstrating how despite not being appreciated, her role in society was fulfilled and it helped to create a better world. The light behind her and the fire represent her luminosity in the world. Women play a very important role in society and from time to time it is good to remember it by looking at the history of humanity.
Name: Totem of Faith
Materials: Wood, Acrylic Paint
Dimensions: 3.3ft x 0.8ft
Concept: College Assignment
Theme: Understanding Religions
Year: 2019
It is a vast belief that religion divides the world into categories. However, contrary to popular belief, religion has the power to unite people. It makes humans believe and have faith in something. It reminds them that there is always something more powerful. Learning about other religions helps people understand that individuals are not that different from each other and that everyone wants to believe in something, even if that something is themselves.
Name: Tricolor Wings
Materials: Wood, recycled paper, spray paint
Dimensions: 4.2ft x 2.1ft
Concept: College Assignment
Theme: Beyond the political and social crisis in Latin America
Year: 2019
The wings are a symbolic representation of hope. It is not a secret that many Latin American countries are going through a political and social crisis, including Colombia. There, collective peaceful protests have been taking place to claim against the violation of their rights. People that were born there but live in other countries often feel frustrated for not being able to support them directly. The wings along with the flag demonstrate that despite the fact of not being physically helping there, they are being listened to in other parts of the world and are being supported unconditionally.
